To ensure the best results, the surface must be dry and free of old finishes, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt, or other foreign matter. Sand the surface to obtain a smooth, uniform finish, and remove all dust with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits. If desired, apply a Minwax stain to unfinished wood surfaces, following the directions for application and drying times.

When applying the Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane, be sure to stir it thoroughly before and during use to eliminate any settling on the bottom of the can. Apply a thin coat using a high-quality natural or foam brush. For floor projects, use a square buff orbital or disk-type sander with 220 grit sandpaper or the equivalent grit pad or screen, specifically designed for sanding between coats. Avoid using a belt or drum-type sander for this purpose.

Apply a second coat, and if a third coat is desired, repeat the sanding step before application. After the final coat, allow 24 hours before light use.
